Finding Cristy (a journey)

It’s been a minute since I last posted. I’ve moved in with my sister to a different city. It’s been around six months that I’ve been in my current city and I have yet to feel at home. First of all, things didn’t go as expected. I didn’t get my dream job after graduating college….and my parents got divorced. I had a vision for myself and that vision disappeared in front of me. I thankfully got a retail job here that is huge help in paying my bills and student loan debt. Although I still live with my sister, I finally have more freedom than living under my dad’s strict rules. I purchased my first car all on my own. It might not be the Audi I want, but it’s MY car! I pay all of my bills with my own money. Although at times it might be overwhelming when seeing the amount that I need to work in order to pay bills, there’s a sense of pride I get knowing I am doing this myself (I pay rent at my sister’s). My life might not be where I envisioned it six months ago, but I just know there’s something bigger ahead for me. I know that this obstacle is only a lesson to get me ready for the future.

So to those who are in the same boat as me, have faith in yourself. Know that this isn’t all it is going to be. Even though I may not have the job I want, I still do my best at it. Take obstacles and hardships as a learning experience. Never lose faith in yourself, even though others have.

Pageant Material

Hi ya’ll!

So I’ve been playing Kacey Musgraves latest album Pageant Material non stop! I mean seriously, country music has been just about catchy lyrics that sometimes don’t make sense lately! I’m a huge fan of country music, but most of the top chart songs are just catchy wannabe pop songs. I the Johnny Cash with that folk tune and lyrics that tell a story or share raw emotions. Or Hank William Jr. with that song about family tradition. This girl Kacey Musgraves just brings back much of that traditional country music vibe I miss truly. I first listened to her in my car when a station on XM Radio played her hit “Follow Your Arrow”. I fell in love with not only the instrumental part but that lyrics that are so raw and honest. She sings lyrics that may put off a lot off people but the way in which she delivers her lyrics is something the country music scene has been missing. She came out with her newest album and I keep staying amazed at her way with lyrics; they tell a story. She also seems like a sweet person and has an amazing, unique sense of style! I can only see her career booming from here! Below is my favorite song off her new album has to be Biscuits! The lyrics of that song are just something I can relate to a lot! Sometimes people judge others a lot when they should worry about themselves instead. Check out her newest album and let me know your thoughts on Ms. Kacey Musgraves! I’m obsessed 😛

Summer Essentials Collab with Glamnecessities

Here’s a great summer collab I did with my friend Christy from Glamnecessities !

Below are 5 of my summer must haves ranging from skincare to foundation.

[starting clockwise]

Aztec Healing Clay: First of all let me say that this product is amazing and it’s also pretty darn affordable! I found mine at a Sprouts store for only $6.99. All you need to do is mix about 3-4 spoonfuls of this powder with water and then apply to your face. I recommend using a cheap foundation brush to apply since it tends to get a big messy and clumpy. Leave on for about 15 minutes, until it hardens. Then remove with warm water. Your face will thank you afterwards!

NYC Bronzing Powder:This is one of the products which cannot leave my daily makeup bag. It’s not only super affordable, it’s a really pretty matte bronzer. I buy it at Walmart for no more than $3. Love the fact that it’s in a compact form with a mirror.

Ponds Face Lotion for Oily Skin:Now, I have extremely oily face in the summer. During the winter weather, my fave gets combination but summer never fails to make my skin oily. Somedays I can use up to 2-3 blotting sheets. Gross I know, but we can all relate. This face lotion mattifies my skin instantly while still moistourizing my face. I buy the big jar at target for aroun $9. Well worth it!

Physicians Formula Youth Wear in Light:This is the perfect serum foundation for summer. It’s very comparable to the Bare Minerals’ bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation, except like half the price! It comes with a dropper. The brush included is horrendous. I use it with either a stippling brush or Real Techniques sponge. I bought mine at Ulta with the coupon.

Banana Boat No Streaks Tanning Lotion in Deep: I’m not pale but sometimes my skin just needs that extra boost of sun without having to sit outside in the actual skin harming sun rays. This product is great and budget friendly!

Don’t forget to check out my friend’s summer essentials on her blog site at Glamnecessities ! What are your summer essentials?

Hasta Luego,

The Color of Power – Red

There’s something about red lipstick that makes me feel empowering. Taylor Swift is the QUEEN of red lipstick! Am I the only one that feels like I can rule the world while wearing red lipstick? Red is after all the color of power and strength!

MAC’s Viva La Glam Matte l is by far my favorite red lipstick I’ve ever tried! Having yellow undertones, I used to struggle finding the perfect red lipstick shade…until now.

MAC Viva La Glam Matte 1:

  • Shade of red fits a lot of different skin shades (I’m a NC35 in Mac and Dawn in Estee Lauder Double Wear)
  • More of a brick red shade
  • Matte Finish: may be a bit drying, but definitely something applying lip balm beforehand can’t help with & I personally love the matte finish lipsticks.
  • It’s longwearing! When used with a lip liner, the lipstick lasts for a very long time! Definitely good when you don’t have time to reapply constantly.

I absolutely adore this lipstick! Thankfully it’s one of MAC’s staple shades, so I don’t have to worry about not being able to repurchase. If you’re on the hunt for a great matte and minimal red shade lipstick that you can wear day and night, make sure to stop by a MAC counter and check this one out!

Texas Toast

I am currently laying down on my boyfriend’s bed nagging about how much my sunburn hurts while he continues to play Destiny and ignores me.

Yesterday, my sorority held a car wash fundraiser at a local Chic-Fil-A restaurant in town. We raised a lot of money but unfortunately my body is paying the price today. Even after having told myself that I would reapply sunscreen ever 30 minutes due to the scorching hot Texas sun, I am now red as a tomato. (Summer normal temperature here is 98 degrees minimum)

As soon as I got home from the fundraiser I realized that my arms were extremely hot. It wasn’t until I saw myself in a mirror, that I realized I was sunburned. My arms and neck are currently bright red. Even wearing a t-shirt hurts due to the friction between the shirt and my burned skin. After hopping out of a really cool shower, I reached for my aloe vera gel and applied it on the affected areas…that didn’t help whatsoever.

I’ve been googling tips on how to get rid of sunburn, but none of them guarantee a quick removal. The most promising one talks about brewing black tea and then applying it on skin with a towel. Have ya’ll tried the black tea remedy? What has been your worse sunburn experience? Comment down below if ya’ll have any tips on relieving my sunburn.

Note to Self: Start wearing sunscreen on the daily!

Go Greek!

Being apart of a sorority is a great way to get involved in college. When you start college, it might be hard to find a place you fit in since it’s not high school anymore where all your friends are at too. Colleges have a vast majority of different organizations that a student can join. Going greek is something you may be interested. Personally, I knew I’ve always wanted to be in a sorority when I went to college since I was little. There are a lot of sororities that exist, and depending on which university you’re attending they may vary. Some organizations have a traditional emphasis in a specific religion or ethnic background. Despite this emphasis, most organizations have non-discrimination membership policies.

Being in a sorority will most likely guarantee that you’ll have something to do every single week of school. You’ll make connections! Most sororities are national and have been established for quite a while. You’ll have sisters that may live in Chicago, when you live in Austin. Or one of  your sisters may help you get an internship somewhere you’re interested. While most think sororities only consist of socializing and partying, sororities also have philanthropies for which they do events to raise money and awareness. Sororities also help your academics by making sure you uphold a certain GPA and require study hours/sessions.

Overall, going greek is something you should look into if you think you might be interested. Go to your universities’ website and see if they have any greek organizations on campus. Do research on the sororities you may be interested in to see what they are about. Most importantly, make sure to go to the events they host during rush week! That’s probably the most crucial part, since you want to make sure you like them and what they’re about. This also gives you an opportunity for them to meet you.
